OUR HISTORY
Watoto Smile 4Life (WS4L) is a non-governmental organisation which helps children and the elderly in Tanzania with dental medical problems. The charity is based in Mbeya a town at the border with Zambia. The two dental practices which offered dental health in the area were closed down by the government health inspectors in October 2018 due to poor facilities that include dental tools and dental chairs.

The closure of two dental centres in Uyole, Mbeya prompted expedience of the work of Watoto Smile 4life. Bearing this in mind, WS4L was thus established in the same year (2018) to provide a variety of services, which include root canals, tooth extraction, filling, cleaning and other types of dentistry needs free of charge for children under the age of 16 and the elderly of Mbeya who cannot access dental care.
For the last two years the dental charity has been run by one volunteer one dentist who is assisted by volunteers in different schools he visits to educate children on dental care. In these two years Colgate based in the capital city of Dar es Salaam has been donating toothpaste and toothbrushes to the charity twice a year.
The Watoto Smile 4Life’s vision is based on working in partnership with the local practitioners. The vision of the charity is to run a dental clinic in the city of Mbeya and also run a mobile dental van in the areas and rural areas in Mbeya.
The charity is in the middle of purchasing dental chairs for a dental clinic in the City of Mbeya. In addition to that it has also purchased a mobile dental chair which will be used when the dental team goes to different areas particularly rural areas where there is little or no dental care to provide dental education in schools.
So far WS4L has been run by volunteers with integrity and good characters who strive to serve without prejudice.
WS4L seeks to be faithful stewards & accountable of all that God has provided the charity. Compassion is an integral part of the work of WS4L because it strives to be the Hands and Feet of God. Jesus provided the perfect example of selfless love and compassion, and it is through this example we conduct our services.
